Violence Intervention and Prevention

News & Highlights

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The month of October is a time to not only acknowledge domestic violence survivors, but to also be an advocate and a voice for its victims. Domestic Violence impacts all people regardless of their age, gender, nationality, race, religion, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status.

There are several forms of Domestic Violence, but they all result in devastating consequences that can last a lifetime. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1 in 4 women and nearly 1 in 10 men have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime and reported at least one impact of the violence (like being concerned for their safety).

The Violence Intervention and Prevention Division within the Department of Public Safety and Community Resources stands in solidarity with all victims of Domestic Violence.

On October 10th, 2023, the City of Antioch officially proclaimed the month of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

On October 15th, 2023, the Violence Intervention and Prevention Division held its inaugural Raising Awareness Against Domestic Violence event. The event consisted of over 15 community-based organizations and a 1k walk to raise awareness.
