Due to the growing concerns over the COVID-19, Contra Costa County Health has determined that all non-essential public functions be cancelled and people should Shelter-In-Place, especially those aged 65+. 

Volunteer Drivers needed to deliver meals to older adults in Antioch every Friday morning. Contact Rhonda Flanagan at 925-757-7325.

The following resources are available for older adults.  (Availability subject to change).

Food & Supplies

  • Groceries: If you are homebound and low-income and need food or supplies, click here.
  • Meals on Wheels: Seniors who need food delivered directly to their homes, please contact Meals on Wheels – Diablo Region, to be added to one of their existing routes. Phone number is 925-937-8311. If you or any other senior needs transportation assistance to and from grocery stores, doctor visits, or need companionship – please contact 925.779.7077, leave a message and we will get back to you.
  • Special Senior Shopping Hours: The following local supermarkets have provided special hours for people aged 60+
    • Costco: Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., for members ages 60 and older, and people with disabilities
    • Safeway: Tues + Thurs,  7-9am
    • Lucky’s: Tues + Thurs,  7-9am

Financial Assistance

  • AARP Tax Preparation Services: In March, it was announced the deadline to file taxes was extended to July 15. Due to Shelter-In-Place, AARP Volunteers cannot help file taxes at this time. For questions on Tax Returns, call the AARP directly at 1-888-227-7669, or click here.
  • Job Loss: Have you or a loved one lost their job? Go to, a new state website dedicated to provide resources and services to those who have become unemployed due to COVID-19.

Health & Safety

  • AARP Safe Driving Course- Online: When you take the AARP Smart Driver™ online course, you could be eligible for a multi-year discount on your auto insurance. Click here
  • Contra Costa County Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP): Medicare beneficiaries can find out about changes to Medicare plans for 2021. It’s a good idea to review your coverage annually ensure that you have the right plan for your needs. HICAP offers many online 2020 “Welcome to Medicare” classes and recordings as well as telephone assistance
    • Zoom online classes presented live via Zoom- for descriptions and schedules, Click here
    • By phone for beneficiaries who need help finding a new Medicare Advantage or Part D prescription drug plan. Call (925) 602-4163 to have a HICAP counselor review your coverage.

Social, Emotional, or Mental Support

  • Aging & Adult Services: If you know of an older adult or person with disabilities who is in urgent need of help and there is no friend, neighbor or family member close by that can assist them, call Aging & Adult Services at 1-800-675-8437, available 24/7.
  • COVID-19 Support Group: Feeling stressed or isolated due to the pandemic? Share with others or find connections in the new COVID-19 Confidential Support Group sponsored by the Contra Costa Crisis Center. Click here
  • Friendship Line: Institute on Aging’s 24-hour toll-free Friendship Line is the only accredited crisis line in the country for people aged 60 years and older, and adults living with disabilities.   • Front Door Library Service: Contra Costa Libraries can assist you in selecting a book or even provide a reading list based on your interests. Click here.
  • Well Connected: If you are aged 60+ and looking for activities to do, or would just like to talk to friendly voices, we suggest trying out Well Connected, a “senior center without walls” that provides activities and conversations over the phone or online.
