Celebrate this Juneteenth with the City of Antioch! This year marks the third annual city sponsored Juneteenth Celebration, where we come together as a city to honor freedom, culture, and community. Join us for a day of reflection that showcases the richness of African American heritage as we embrace the vibrancy and resiliency of Black culture. This event features live performances, music, food, activities for kids and adults, and so much more!
What is Juneteenth?
Short for June Nineteenth, Juneteenth is a holiday celebrating the 1865 emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States– marking the day when federal troops arrived in Galvenston, Texas to take control of the state and ensure the freedom of all remaining enslaved people. Texas became the first U.S. state to celebrate Juneteenth in 1979. Officially becoming a U.S. federal holiday in June of 2021, the City of Antioch is proud to present our third annual Juneteenth Celebration taking place on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

Born in Texas, raised in the Bay Area, Nzuri Soul is a Country loving, R&B/Soul-Rock singer based in California who has made a name for herself over the course of her ten-year career in the music industry with her powerful vocals, songwriting, and entertaining stage presence. She has released three full albums as well as a holiday album. Nzuri Soul is no stranger to performing at iconic California venues like Oakland’s Fox Theatre, House of Blues (Los Angeles, New Orleans & Las Vegas), The Fenix Club, The Empress Theater, Journey Theatre Vacaville, Downtown Theatre Fairfield, Marina Lounge, and Vino Winery just to name a few. In the last few years Nzuri Soul and her band have had several sold out tribute shows at Yoshi’s Oakland to Aaliyah, Beyonce, Mary J Blige, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight.
Nzuri Soul and her band have been awarded NCEMA “R&B Band of the Year” 2018 & 2019, “Entertainer of the Year” 2019 & 2020 BMA “R&B Female Singer of the Year” and “Best Female Live Performer.” Nzuri Soul and her band are known for bringing a tight knit, all in dance party and her shows are always dedicated to the fans that have kept her career a success.

“The Curtis Family, known professionally as, The Curtis Family C-Notes, play a slew of genres, with a strong foundation in American Classical music and 60s-70s inspired San Francisc/Oakland/Bay Area funk. The family band with Mom and Dad and their 5 children, are all multi-instrumentalists, composers, producers, and vocalists; Papa C & Mama C, Zahara, Nile, Isis, Kiki, and Phoenix.”
