Surrendering Animals

Surrendering your pet to the shelter should be your last resort. It is highly recommended that pet owners attempt to rehome their pet on their own by utilizing other resources, such as, our Home To Home ™ website here: https://aas.home-home.org/

Antioch Animal Services will only accept surrenders of owned pets by appointment. Drop-off or same-day owner surrenders will not be accommodated in order to preserve limited space for animals in critical need, such as stray or injured animals.

If you are an Antioch resident and you wish to surrender your animal, please complete the SURRENDER REQUEST FORM. A representative from the the Joybound People & Pets Pet Safety Net program, a partner of Antioch Animal Services, will call you within three business days to provide resources to help you keep your pet in your home, or assist you in scheduling a future appointment for surrender. We strongly encourage you to exhaust the re-homing tools and other resources that will be sent in response to your form inquiry as an alternative to surrender. As space permits, owned pets from the City of Antioch will be admitted to the shelter by appointment.

If you cannot access the Surrender Request Form, please send a detailed email to admissions.antioch@gmail.com so that we may assist you. You may also contact us by phone and we will walk you through the process.

At your appointment, please bring your state issued ID, all of your pet’s paperwork and veterinary records, and the appropriate surrender fees. Please also be ready to answer questions about your pet’s behavior history If you must surrender your pet, we will do what we can to provide them with the most humane outcome. Please be advised that surrendered pets become the property of Antioch Animal Services and may be considered for adoption, transfer to rescue, or euthanasia.

If you cannot access the Surrender Request Form, please send a detailed email to admissions.antioch@gmail.com so that we may assist you.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to ensure the best outcomes for all of Antioch’s animals.
