  • tenantThe City of Antioch provides funding to our nonprofit partner ECHO Housing, which has trained mediators that help tenants and landlords settle housing disputes through conciliation and mediation to provide information to tenants and landlords on rental housing issues such as:

    • eviction notices
    • rent increases
    • reasonable accommodations for persons who are disabled
    • security deposit disputes
    • understanding lease terms
    • repairs and habitability
    • harassment
    • Illegal entry
    • other rights and responsibilities regarding the tenant/landlord relationship

    The City also funds Bay Area Legal Aid and Centro Legal de la Raza (through a contract with ECHO Housing) to assist lower income tenants facing eviction with assistance, legal advice and representation as needed.

    Bay Area Legal Aid provides legal advice and representation for free to qualifying lower income households on such civil legal issues as:

    • Eviction process and defenses
    • Illegal lockouts
    • Sheriff’s notices to vacate
    • Section 8 terminations

    These services are funded with City of Antioch Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds in order to support tenant rights and housing security.
