Drought Information

Current Water Use Prohibitions and Drought Information

As we are in the 3rd dry year in a row, the City of Antioch encourages all water customers to treat our water as the precious resource it is.  To report water waste concerns that you encounter, contact any of the following channels:

Please keep in mind that per City of Antioch Municipal Code 6-10.04 –the following water uses are always prohibited:

  1. Permitting water to flow onto a sidewalk, driveway or street, or escape down a gutter, ditch or other service drain;
  2. Outside watering that results in excessive flooding or runoff into a gutter, drain, walkway or street;
  3. Using City-furnished water for non-recirculating decorative fountains or filling of decorative lakes or ponds;
  4. Washing of paved or other hard surface areas, including sidewalks, walkways, driveways, patios and parking areas with City-furnished water;
  5. Failing to repair a controllable leak of water; and/or
  6. Using a hose without an automatic shutoff nozzle.

In response to the ongoing drought on June 14, 2022 the City Council declared that we are in Stage 2 of our water shortage contingency plan and so prohibited water uses have been expanded as follows:

Water Use Prohibitions ALL Customers:

  1. Permitting water to flow onto a sidewalk, driveway or street, or escape down a gutter, ditch or other service drain.
  2. Watering of outdoor landscapes in a manner that causes excessive runoff such that water flows onto adjacent property, non-irrigated areas, private and public walkways, roadways, parking lots, or structures.
  3. Watering of outdoor landscapes during and up to 48 hours after measurable rainfall.
  4. Watering of outdoor landscapes during the daylight hours of 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
  5. No vehicle washing except at facilities that use recycled or recirculating water.
  6. Washing paved or other hard-surfaced areas, including sidewalks, walkways, driveways, patios, and parking areas.
  7. Use of water for non-recirculating decorative fountains or filling decorative lakes or ponds.
  8. Using a hose without an automatic shutoff nozzle.
  9. Failing to repair a controllable leak of water.

Additional Water Use Prohibitions Non-Residential Customers:

  1. Serving of drinking water other than upon request in eating or drinking establishments, including but not limited to restaurants, hotels, cafes, cafeterias, bars, or other public places where food or drink are served and/or purchased.
  2. Operators of hotels and motels shall provide guests with the option of choosing not to have towels and linens laundered daily. A notice shall be prominently displayed in each bathroom.
  3. Commercial kitchens are required to use pre-rinse spray.
  4. Non-functional “turf” shall not be irrigated with potable water at commercial, institutional and industrial sites.

Fines for failing to correct any violations after receiving notice:

  • Fine for first offense: $100.00/day
  • Fine for second offense: $200.00/day
  • Fine for third and each subsequent offense: $500.00/day
